Carnival Refurbishes Ecstasy, Home Port Charleston, SC

Carnival’s new and improved Fun Ship experience has sailed into Charleston.  The Carnival Ecstasy completed its latest refurbishment in January, 2017.  If you are familiar with Carnival, you may know that they have named their refurbishment process Fun Ship 2.0.  What’s a refurbishment anyway?  Every 5 years cruise ships head into ‘dry dock’ for routine maintenance, as well as cosmetic fixes like new bedding, carpet, tile, and enhancements to public areas. Why is this one called Fun Ship 2.0?  Well Carnival completed its ‘Evolutions of Fun’ (now Fun Ship 1.0) a few years back, adding upgrades like an enhanced Serenity Spa experience, the Water Works pool park, and Camp Carnival to its more mature Fantasy class ships.

This update is all about the options.  With Fun Ship 2.0, guests are getting new complimentary dining venues like Guy Fieri’s Burger Joint.  Guy worked with Carnival to create a burger and fries served on deck that beats the usual stadium like burger fare option.  The Blue Iguana is serving up Mexican treats like burritos and chips and salsa.  They also added a specialty dining venue (there is a nominal upcharge) offering Italian fare called Cucina del Capitano with singing waiters.  Carnival added entertainment features including a George Lopez designed Punchline comedy venue, an EA sports bar complete with huge TV screens playing favorite sporting events, and the RedFrog Rum Bar.  The Rum Bar is so popular in the Caribbean that its now offered on almost all of their ships.  These additions will certainly make its cruisers happy, and Carnival guests already know they known in the industry for serving the best dessert, the Chocolate Lava Cake.  Yum!
